Chris Arreola (36-4, 31KOs) by his own account put on a subpar performance Friday night in his unanimous decision victory over Curtis Harper. Arreola dropped Harper in the first round but injured his right elbow shortly after which caused him to use his right hand sporadically through the rest of the fight and turned a one-sided fight into a highly entertaining contest in the process.
The heavyweight contender took a lot of punishment from the second round on as he was unable to put away his journeyman opponent. He said that he wasn't satisfied with his performance and that he will get right back in the gym.
"I'm going right back to the gym. I want to come back on April 18th on the Chavez-Fonfara card (at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.) and I won't be this heavy either. I will be around 240," Arreola told BoxingScene.com. He weighed in at 262.5 pounds for this bout.
When asked if he could make such a quick turnaround with the sore right elbow he said, "F*** yeah. You just have to put ice on it and suck it up."
