Despite inactivity, Chris Algieri has dismissed talks that he is retired as he continues to tick over ahead of one last push towards a world title fight in 2020.

Algieri’s last outing came on the undercard of Andy Ruiz Jr’s stunning stoppage of Anthony Joshua at Madison Square Garden and now the former world super lightweight champion has revealed previous and future plans for an assent back to the pinnacle of world boxing.

Algieri states, “As many people know I am always in the gym. Health and fitness is a lifestyle to me so staying in the gym comes part and parcel with that.

“I have a fantastic training team in Keith Trimble and Andre Rozier and I felt that balance showed as I was happy with my performance against Tommy Coyle but I feel that the best is still yet to come from Chris Algieri.”

Algieri continued, as he discussed plans that hadn’t materialized due to matters out of his hands.

He said, “The plan was to fight Maurice Hooker for the world title. I am ranked highly in the WBO super lightweight division and that is a title I never lost in the ring. I feel that it’s still a part of me and I want another shot at that title.

“Jose Ramirez put on a sensational performance against Hooker and it looks like Top Rank may have other plans for him going forward, but if the opportunity came to fight Ramirez I wouldn’t turn it down.”

Algieri has kept busy in the interim as he released his own cook book entitled ‘The Fighters Kitchen’ alongside his punditry work and speaking at many Sports Science events nationwide. The Long Island native opened up about his hectic schedule and how it affects his plans in the ring for the future.

Algieri stated, “It’s fantastic to be a part of all of these sports science events and working on commentary is a lot of fun too. I have the ability to shift my focus to whatever I want to focus on at the appropriate time and I’m very blessed in that aspect.

“The Fighters Kitchen has become a best seller so I’m very proud of that accomplishment, however, I have not forgotten I have objectives to fulfill inside the ring and I want to be back in the ring in early 2020. I am very proud of my accomplishments thus far, but I know I have some more big fights left in me."
