World Boxing Council [WBC] super flyweight world champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (46-0, 38 KOs) is heading to Japan on Wednesday to meet with his promoter, Mr. Honda of Teiken Promotions, as they map out his future for 2017.
The boxer will be accompanied by his legal adviser Carlos Blandon.
"This is an important trip for us. We will see what is possible in 2017, and discuss potential opponents that interest us both," Blandon confirmed.
Chocolatito recently returned to the gym and started training after the unexpected death of his longtime trainer Arnulfo Obando, who suffered a serious stroke two days and was eventually declared brain dead as his condition worsened.
The champion is training with Wilmer Hernandez. Chocolatito announced that his new head trainer would be his father, Luis Gonzalez and Hernandez would also be a part of the corner. Blandon confirms that they are not adding anyone else to the corner.
"We will not hire anyone else to add to our preparation. Wilmer Hernandez will remain and Luis Gonzalez (father of Roman) will take the lead. Right now we feel strong, because from heaven we have an angel who cares for us and that angel is called Arnulfo Obando , "Blandon said. "We know what's best for us and we hope to bring good news from [from Japan]."
