British heavyweight Derek Chisora is prepared to take on the biggest challenge of his young career. The 26-year-old is ready to accept an offer to face WBO/IBO/IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on December 11 in Germany. Despite having a low fight count of 14-0, Chisora's trainer, Don Charles, is confident in his fighter's ability to pull off a major upset.
“Leon Spinks won the heavyweight title after just eight fights so why not? Just like Leon we are going to shock the world,” Charles told Paul Foley of Box Rec News. " Klitschko is made for my boy, we will put him on the back foot. He is ready for the taking, he doesn’t like fighting. We will make him work.”
If Chisora signs the contract and steps in the ring, he will do something that his countryman David Haye has refused to do - fight a Klitschko. Chisora's trainer says Haye is lacking the proper confidence and is overprotective about the type of fights he accepts.
“Haye doesn’t believe in his own ability and is overprotective,” added Charles.
In the case of Chisora, Charles says the fight is not about the money or the spotlight. They want those world title belts and he believes his fighter will bring them back to England.
“I have 100% belief (of winning) I’m not a mug, it’s not about money, we don’t mind taking peanuts. It’s about becoming world champion, Derek is a complete fighter,” Charles said.
