When Steve ‘Match Makin’ Mestas and Airtight Boxing announced their next date for March 6th it was immediately followed by a ‘call out’ from Rob Frankel to fight Cesar Holguin. Holguin declined saying that there is ‘bad blood’ between him and Mestas. Fair enough.

Enter one ‘Chino’ Carrillo to the picture. He and his manager of record, Romo Utajara, stepped up to the plate and said if Holguin doesn’t want it, we do. “We have been wanting a rematch with Frankel since the last fight. Chino is a more mature and seasoned fighter, this time around. I like the fight for my fighter Chino.” That fight is proposed and being decided upon. Mestas has mentioned he wants to keep Frankel fighting at 35’s but, “You never know, we will see if me and Romo can reach an agreement.”

If not that fight, the other fight mentioned is Manny Perez vs John Ryan Grimaldo. I absolutely love this fight. Grimaldo is heavy handed and Perez is a veteran with experience. Put them together and I believe we get yet another great local match up.

Either one of these fights would be a great way to kick off the new year.
