Accoing to Top Rank's head matchmaker, Bruce Trampler, middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0, 30KOs) will possibly fight junior middleweight Pawel "The Raging Bull" Wolak (27-1, 17 KOs) on September 11, likely in Mexico. Wolak's only loss came by way of decision to Ishe Smith. He doesn't have a problem with moving to 160-pounds to fight Chavez.
"We've discussed it. [Wolak's manager] Ivan Edwards' texted me and he called [Top Rank matchmaker] Brad Goodman and he said, 'you know, we really want that fight, let's see if we can make it happen,'" said Trampler. "[Wolak] is the only guy being considered right now."
The September return was going to be a fight that prepared Chavez for a possible bout with former champion Kelly Pavlik on December 4 at Cowboys Stadium in Texas. Sources close to the situation have advised BoxingScene.com that Top Rank is having second thoughts about making that fight so soon, and want to add a little bit more seasoning to Chavez before he steps in the ring with Pavlik.
