The original plan was to schedule a welterweight clash between two second generation Mexican boxers on September 3 in Mexicali. Zanfer Promotions is now looking to go in another direction. Omar Chavez (26-0-1, 19KOs) and Jorge Paez Jr. (28-4-1, 17KOs) will still see action on September 3, but not against each other. Zanfer wants to feature the two boxers in separate fights to build some motion behind a tentative fall clash. If both boxers win their fights, Zanfer wants to match them in November.
Chavez takes in his second fight of the year and Paez is his most experienced opponent to date. For Paez Jr., this would be the fourth fight of the year for Paez, who started well with a win over former champion Jose Luis Castillo in March. Paez would lose a close split decision to prospect Jose Lopez in May, but came back to defeat Jesus Gurrola in July.
