Welterweight contender Omar Chavez (27-1, 20KOs) suffered his first career defeat last Saturday night in Chiapas, Mexico. He lost a ten round majority decision to Jorge Paez Jr. His famous father, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., was watching from ringside and saw his son making many technical errors, but also reveals that Omar's had struggled with weight in training camp.
"The truth in itself, it is sad to see one of your children lose. You do not expect that, but as fans we all know that in boxing you win and lose, nobody is invincible. Everyone knows that fights are not only won in the ring, but also in the gym. I personally believe that Omar struggled hard to make weight. Also, we also saw that he didn't box and he was very stationary. Omar is calm, he took [the loss] well. Now he knows what to do and what not to do," Chavez Sr. told Sal Rodriguez.
