Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. expects big things to come from his son, former WBC middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32KOs).

Chavez Jr. has long been criticized for his training habits and recent performances in the ring. The boxer has not looked the same since losing a twelve round decision to Sergio Martinez in September of 2012.

He parted ways with trainer Freddie Roach in 2012. Since then he was using his uncle, Joe Goossen and Robert Garcia.

A few weeks ago, Chavez hooked back up with Roach and the two of them are reportedly getting along very well and working hard in the gym.

Chavez has been out of the ring since last July's ten round decision win over Marcos Reyes. In that bout Chavez Jr. injured his hand and the ailment kept him out the ring for the rest of the year. He was going to return in April but then injured his heel. He is likely returning in July and potentially against J'Leon Love.

"My son is very motivated and is happy to be with Freddie. Julio has everything to become world champion again. After so many ups and downs he is already on the right track and is with the right coach to see a totally different fighter from now on," said Chavez Sr. to Carlos Zuluban.

"I'm positive that he has acquired maturity, which is essential, and you are going to see a completely different Julio that has the ambition to grow further. He has been disciplined and that's what we emphasized on. His strength, his waist and physical complexion, are the conditions that he will work harder will further build on Julio's capabilities."
