The is past Saturday night at the Foro Promocasa in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, welterweight contender Omar “Businessman” Chavez (27-0-1, 20 KOs) stopped Alberto Martínez (15-2, 10 KOs) in the first round. Omar's legendary father, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., is very critical of his fighting sons, but he was impressed with the quick victory.
"I liked the attitude of Omar. No doubt he is coming along. I'm also pleased with what I've seen [of him] in training. If this continues, he will soon move on to other levels," Chavez Sr. said
Chavez is now likely going to face the son of another Mexican legend, welterweight Jorge “Maromerito” Paez Jr. (29-4-1, 18 KOs).
"People keep asking me [about the fight]. Maybe it will happen, but Omar is ready. There must be a good negotiation with [Zanfer President] Fernando Beltran. If they come to an agreement, my child is ready," Chavez Sr. said.
