According to University of Texas System chancellor Francisco Cigarroa, he will allow Top Rank to stage a middleweight fight between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Andy Lee on the El Paso campus, reversing a 3-day-old ban that had upset city officials. Friday's reversal came after several days of pressure from the boxing community, El Paso fans, local officials and state lawmakers.

A few days ago, Cigarroa had canceled the June 16th fight, scheduled to take place at the Sun Bowl, over security concerns. A law enforcement official told The Associated Press that a federal risk assessment had warned that leaders of warring Mexican drug cartels would attend.

Cigarroa set several conditions. He says state, local and federal law enforcement must promise system officials they can handle any security measures. Before the event goes forward, a security plan must be approved by system officials and no alcohol can be served at the card.
