Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32KOs) expects to be back in the gym in two months time. The Mexican star injured his left hand in his July ten round decision victory over Marcos Reyes. It was his first fight with new trainer Robert Garcia.

The injury was more serious than previously thought and Chavez had to undergo an operation on August 21, where there were screws inserted in his hand. He had a second procedure on Thursday, when the screws were removed.

"Everything went very well, thank God and my doctors. They did a great job and in two months I can be training again," Chavez Jr. said.

That practically rules him out for a return in 2015 and pushes his next date back to the first quarter of next year.

Chavez wants to fight WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack by next summer. If he were to win, he would become the first Mexican fighter in history to capture a world title at 168-pounds.
