As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32KOs) has pushed back his return to August 3rd in Mexico City. The slated opponent is Brian Vera, but the Mexican boxer would like to face someone he believes is tougher. Chavez would like to go against England's Martin Murray (25-1-1, 11KOs), who lost a very close twelve round decision to WBC champion Sergio Martinez last month.
The main reason Chavez wants to fight Murray is because a lot of experts felt the British boxer did enough to beat Martinez. Because Martinez suffered several injuries in the fight and is likely sidelined until next year, Chavez expects a fight with Murray to have the WBC's interim-title at stake - with the winner getting a shot at Martinez once he returns.
"Hopefully Murray will be encouraged to come and face me in Mexico City. Our fight could be for the WBC interim world title. I want the best opponent possible," Chavez said.
