On Wednesday, Zanfer Promotions staged a press conference to announce the return of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. - who is scheduled to fight again on December 10 at the Arena Monterrey and the card will be sponsored by Tecate.
Chavez Jr (49-2-1, 32 KOs) will face Germany's Dominik Britsch (32-2-1, 11 KOs) in a ten round super middleweight contest, as the headline fight of a twelve bout event.
Chavez Jr returns to the ring after a year of inactivity. His last match was on July 18, 2015 when he defeated Marcos "Dorado" Reyes whom he defeated by decision. In that fight he suffered a serious hand injury that kept from for the remainder or the year. He then suffered a heel injury earlier this year while training for a fight with WBC world champion Badou Jack.
And Chavez Jr. claims that his on again and off again relationship with Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is back in the mix.
The Mexican boxer is claiming that Roach will be in his corner next month. Roach had told BoxingScene.com two weeks ago that he was done with Chavez Jr. after numerous disappointments during their training camps.
"Losing to [Sergio] Martinez [in 2012] was painful and I lost a little direction after that, I was only fighting to fight without any encouragement. However, I feel very good after a nice rest. Now I want to put on the gloves and start like new. I have the hunger to do so," said Chavez Jr. to Carlos Zulbaran.
"Things happen for a reason and everyone has their rightful place. I have another chance in boxing and I'm going to take the opportunity. The name of my father, I'll raise it up."
"Freddie will come [to Mexico] 10 days prior to the fight . I was already training with him for three months when I was in Big Bear and I did well, Roach will be in my corner."
Of course Germany's Britsch has other plans and views Chavez as a tailor-made opponent.
"Chavez Jr. has the ideal style for me, he comes forward, he does not take care of his defense and gets hit by everything. Besides he is slow. It will be a great fight and I will win," said the German.
