Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-3-1, 32 KOs) is planning to stay with Hall of Fame trainer Nacho Beristain.

Chavez Jr, who went through several trainers in the last few years, hired Nacho to prepare for last Saturday's fight with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

According to Chavez Jr., he was very weak from making the contract weight and it left him unable to put any offense together. The Mexican boxer had not weighed that low since he competed as a middleweight in 2012.

He plans to continue his career at the super middleweight limit of 168, which is where he fought last December.

"My body didn’t do the things that I wanted to do. 164-pounds in five years from 168, I don’t feel as strong… I’m staying at 168, that’s the best for me and you know I could have changed a few things," Chavez Jr. said.

"I’ll keep working with Nacho. I think the strategy was smart, fight him in the middle of the ring, that’s what we wanted to do. When he went to the ropes, I just didn’t have the strength to go after him and do some damage."

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya, who promotes Canelo, was not pleased with the effort by Chavez Jr.

"One side showed up and that’s Canelo for this fight and we are extremely happy for him,” De La Hoya said.

Canelo will now move forward with a planned showdown against IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. The fight was announced on Saturday night and takes place on September 16th with the venue to be determined in the coming weeks.
