At the Plaza de Toros, Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (39-0, 29KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Luciano Cuello (23-1, 10KOs). The scores were 98-92, 96-94 and 96-95.
The first three rounds were grueling, with an inside war that Chavez was winning with hard shots to the body to get the advantage. The pace continued for the next few rounds, the two of them were pounding each other at close range with hard accurate punches. Around the fifth, Chavez began to counter off the jab and target Cuello's body. Cuello was game and continued to fight back as Chavez pressed him.
In the eight, Cuello's face was a bloody mask. Chavez began to pound him with punches to the head and body. Cuello would counter, but not well enough to keep Chavez off. Chavez continued to counter well, take the fight to Cuello and work the body but Cuello kept the rounds close with his non-stop pressure. He stunned Cuello in the tenth and final round to close well in a very close fight.
