Jermall Charlo’s return to his hometown will take place a little later in June than expected.

Multiple sources have informed BoxingScene.com that Charlo’s WBC interim middleweight title defense against Brandon Adams has been scheduled for June 29 in Houston. Showtime will televise the Charlo-Adams match as the main event of a doubleheader from NRG Arena.

Showtime’s telecast also is expected to include WBA interim light heavyweight champ Marcus Browne, who’ll defend his secondary 175-pound crown against former WBC champ Jean Pascal.

The card headlined by Charlo-Adams initially was planned for June 8 or June 15. Scheduling it for June 29 will eliminate head-to-head competition for viewership from Gennady Golovkin’s fight against Steve Rolls on June 8 at Madison Square Garden in New York (DAZN) and the Tyson Fury-Tom Schwarz heavyweight bout June 15 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas (ESPN+).

The 28-year-old Charlo (28-0, 21 KOs) is a heavy favorite over Los Angeles’ Adams (21-2, 13 KOs), who won season five of “The Contender” late last year. Adams, 29, soundly defeated Shane Mosley Jr. (13-3, 8 KOs) by unanimous decision in the 10-round season finale November 9 at The Forum in Inglewood, California, but he’ll take a steep step up in competition against Charlo.

Charlo will fight for the first time since Russian southpaw Matt Korobov gave him everything Charlo could handle December 22 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The 35-year-old Korobov (28-2, 14 KOs) accepted that bout on only six days’ notice, but he provided a much tougher test than at least one of the scorecards suggested (119-108, 116-112, 116-112).

Browne, meanwhile, will make the first defense of a title he won by beating Badou Jack definitively January 19 in Las Vegas. The southpaw from Staten Island, New York, easily out-boxed Sweden’s Jack (22-2-3, 13 KOs) in their 12-round fight on the Manny Pacquiao-Adrien Broner undercard at MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Jack fought through a nasty gash that bled badly from his forehead, and he couldn’t contend with Browne’s speed and skill. Browne (23-0, 16 KOs) beat Jack 119-108, 117-110 and 116-111.

The 36-year-old Pascal (33-6-1, 20 KOs, 1 NC), of Laval, Quebec, Canada, lost a one-sided, 12-round decision to Dmitry Bivol in his last fight, November 24 at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Russia’s Bivol (16-0, 11 KOs) is the WBA’s true light heavyweight champion.
