Charlie Edwards has announced a new trainer ahead of his return.
The 23-year-old former world title challenger lost to now-ex IBF flyweight champion Johnriel Casimero, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
Edwards (9-1, 4 KOs) boxed Casimero –– who has since moved up to 115 pounds –– on the undercard of Gennady Golovkin’s world middleweight title defence against Kell Brook at the O2 Arena in London.
He returned under trainer Danny Vaughan to get a win at Wembley Arena last November, but he has now announced changes to his training team.
Epsom’s Edwards confirmed on Wednesday that he and Danny Vaughan had parted ways and that he would now be fighting under the tutelage of Adam Booth, the former trainer of George Groves and David Haye.
“I am very pleased to announce that going forward in my career I will be under the tutelage and guidance of one of the best trainers Britain has to offer in Adam Booth,” Edwards revealed via Instagram.
“I am really excited for this opportunity to work under Adam and his proven track record speaks for itself.
“2017 is due to be the biggest of my career and I believe I'm in the right hands with the best team around me to help me fulfil my potential.
“This move has allowed me to move closer to home and feel a lot more settled without travelling back and forth from country to country.
“I want to thank everyone for your support up to this point and I can promise that 2017 will bring some big memorable nights.”
Boxing Scene was contacted by Vaughan earlier in the week –– on Monday –– to confirm their split, which happened a while ago but had been kept under wraps.
“It was an amicable,” he told ‘Scene, “and location was the problem.
“I’m in Marbella and Glasgow and Charlie was going back home to London.
“He’s a good kid, a top boxer. We had a successful partnership, we had four fights together and he boxed for the world title and won two titles with me.
“I wish him all the best in the future.”
