Junior middleweight prospect Charles Conwell stopped Manny Woods after the third round late Saturday night at Promo West in Columbus, Ohio.
Woods was Conwell’s toughest test to date, on paper, but Conwell was in control throughout the fight.
Conwell connected with several right crosses to the head of Woods. The impact of the punches Woods received from Conwell, began to take their toll, especially in round three when Woods was stunned at least once.
Woods did not answer the bell to begin round four, choosing to remain on his stool than take more punishment from Conwell.
Conwell, who resides in Cleveland, improves to 9-0, 7 knockouts. He is promoted by Lou DiBella and managed by David McWater.
Woods, who had not fought in over a year, drops to 16-8-1, 6 KOs and has now lost four of his last five bouts.
Super middleweight Isaiah Steen, who is the older half-brother of Conwell, fought to a No-Decision against Tyi Edmonds.
The fight was stopped on an accidental foul at 1:50 of round four. Since the fight did not go the required four complete rounds, the result was a No-Decision.
Steen, who resides in Cleveland, entered the bout 11-0, 9 KOs. Edmunds (11-3 1 ND, 8 KOs) entered the bout having won his previous six fights.
Junior middleweight Andreal Holmes (8-0, 4 KOs) won a four round unanimous decision over Lucious Johnson (4-5-1, 3 KOs).
Junior middleweights Ben Schlater (4-1-2, 1 KO) and Cory Dulaney (5-8-3, 1 KO) fought to a four-round decision draw. The fight comes almost seven months after both fighters fought to a six-round split decision draw.
