Chanachai CP Freshmart conceded his WBC Youth strawweight title in the most horrific manner. The unbeaten Thai collapsed in his corner after eight rounds of action versus Dexter Alimento in their scheduled 10-round main event Friday afternoon in Chiang Rai, Thailand.
A competitive fight ended with CP Freshmart unresponsive and carried out of the ring on a stretcher.
Alimento (10-0, 7KOs) was fighting outside of his native Philippines for the first time in his young career and was holding his own against CP Freshmart, who applying plenty of forward pressure. Alimento spent much of the fight backed up against the ropes but the cleaner shots were clearly coming from the Filipino who sneaked several hard uppercuts through his opponent's high guard.
CP Freshmart was ahead 77-75 on all three scorecards through eight rounds, but no longer mattered the moment he lost consciousness. His trainers frantically signaled for the ringside physician to tend to his needs, at which point the young strawweight was placed on a gurney and carried out of the ring and to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Thoughts and prayers are with CP Freshmart and his family in his time of need.
