At the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California, Eddie Chambers (34-1, 18KOs) won a ten round majority decision over former heavyweight champion Sam Peter (30-3, 23KOs). The scores were 95-95, 96-94 and 99-91.
Peter actually came out with some boxing, choosing to throw power jabs to the head and body of Chambers. Chambers would counter with his fast hands, use his legs to move around and go for Peter's body. Over the next few rounds, Peter continued to stalk Chambers, trying to walk the smaller man down. Chambers used his legs and countered well, landing some good right hands.
By the fifth, Peter's mouth was wide open and he was breathing pretty hard. Peter weighed in on Thursday at a career-high 265-pounds and his body was starting to break down. By the seventh, Peter looked exhausted and Chambers was jabbing him to death. Chambers didn’t look much better in the eight, tiring and not letting his hand go.
A sense of urgency in the ninth saw Chambers start to be more active with his jab and land occasional right hands behind it. Peter was so tired that Chambers began to walk him down. In the tenth and final round, both guys looked good in spurts, but Chambers appeared to be busier and landed the better punches.
Punch numbers showed that Chambers landed over 40% of his punches, while Peter landed only 19% of his shots.
