Former champion Ruslan Chagaev watched Saturday's fight between world champion David Haye and Olympic champion Audley Harrison. Chagaerv, who is the mandatory challenger of the WBA, is the next opponent for Haye. Chagaev was very disappointed with Haye's three round technical knockout of Harrison.
"I am totally disappointed by the performance. That was not a fight at the championship level. Harrison didn't do anything. In three rounds, I saw him throw three jabs...that's it. That's all he did in a world title fight. The first two rounds, Haye only waited. He could have started earlier and we could have all went to bed," Chagaev said.
"I was as disappointed as the 22,000 spectators at the venue. Now Haye has to fight with me, and we are the only two boxers to defeat Nikolai Valuev. This will be an exciting duel, which pleases me a lot. Haye has said that he wants to retire on his birthday in October [2011]. He may also have to make our fight in the spring and he's going to lose to me. I will be his first real test in the heavyweight division. I was a world champion and I will be back. The belt is mine."
On May 22, Chagaev by a clear points victory against Kali Meehan to become the mandatory challenger of the WBA.
