BoxingScene.com caught up with Javier Bustillo of Universal Promotions at the WBC's Convention in Las Vegas. During the convention former two division champion Hugo Cazares petitioned the WBC to fight for the vacant bantamweight title. Nonito Donaire has the title but is moving up to the super bantamweight division.
Bustillo advised Boxingscene.com that he would like his fighter Cesar Seda to face Cazares should he win the bantamweight title.
"If we can't get a title shot (at 115 pounds) we will move to 118. We want Cazares," stated Bustillo. "People want to see it. We are petitioning the WBC. Seda will go up for it," he continued.
Bustillo thinks the fight would be huge because of Cazares previous success against Puerto Rican fighters. The promoter also feels that Cazares should have gotten the win over Ivan Calderon in their first meeting.
"Cazares beat five Puerto Ricans in Puerto Rico. He is very well respected in Puerto Rico. It is a great fight. He really beat Calderon in the first fight and Calderon had to run around in the second fight to beat him," stated Bustillo.
