A top contender at 115 and 118 pounds, Cesar Seda (22-1, 16 KO's), became a free agent after his contract with promoter Gary Shaw expired on May 30. He is prepared to sign with one of largest promotional companies in the United States, according to his father and trainer, Cesar Seda Sr., who says the ring return of his son could occur by the end of August.
"We were waiting for the expiration of the contract. It expired on May 30. There have already been preliminary bid. Negotiations with a new company, one of the largest U.S. and worldwide, are well advanced and we hope to fight in late August at 118 pounds," Seda Sr. said.
Meanwhile, Seda Sr. said they made a decision to opt for free agency because they were not satisfied with the way Shaw was handling his the direction of his son's career. Seda lost his unbeate record, by decision, after he tried unsuccessfully to unseat Omar Narvaez of his 115 pound WBO crown in Argentina. Rather than extend his contract, Seda sat out and allowed it to expire.
"They did nothing to seek a rematch and we weren't satisfied with the way we were being treated. Then he fought in March and had two months until the expiration of the contract," Seda Sr. said.
