The Committee of Championships of the World Boxing Association ordered negotiations for the rematch bout between the super bantamweight interim-champion Nehomar Cermeno (22-5-1, 13KOs) and Oscar Escandon (22-1, 15KOs).

The first fight between Cermeno and Escandon for the interim title was staged in Panama, on the 10th of August. Cermeno won a close twelve round split decision over the previously undefeated Escandon.

According to the rules, the mandatory rematch fight should take place within a period of 120 days and that is the reason why the WBA ordered the negotiations to commence.

The fight contracts should be signed by January 15, 2014.
