As expected, WBA "regular" champion Celestino Caballero (36-4, 23KOs) BoxingScene.com has refused to move forward with a planned fight against mandatory challenger Nicholas Walters (21-0, 17KOs). BoxingScene.com reported several days ago that Canelo Promotions was the sole bidder in purse bid held by the World Boxing Association.
The promotional company, owned by WBC champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, submitted the minimum bid of $120,000 dollars to secure the rights to the featherweight bout - with a 75-25 split in favor of the champion. Caballero would receive $90,000.
Cabellaro will not fight for $90,000 on either of the two planned dates, December 1 or December 8 in Kingston. The WBA will strip Caballero if he refuses to fight.
"I will not fight for 90 thousand dollars and I wouldn't even do it for 120. Perhaps [they think] I am dying of hunger," Caballero said.
