According to a report in the New Zealand Sunday News , promoter Cedric Kushner is willing to drop pending lawsuit against boxing manager Shelly Finkel, if Finkel grants Kushner promoted fighter David Tua a title shot at IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.
Kushner is suing Finkel for an alleged breach of contract stemming from last year when Klitschko backed off a potential bout with Shannon Briggs, and instead fought Calvin Brock.
"I drop the suit, they give us the fight ... that's the plan," Kushner said. "It would be a win-win for them. Klitschko is due to fight in the first two months of next year and they are still searching for an opponent. Obviously, because I am the one taking them to court, I'm in a position to control any out of court settlement and I'll be looking to use all the leverage I can to get David the shot at the title he deserves."
Finkel told the paper that Tua could be a possible opponent, but he must first face and beat a higher caliber of opposition.
"I think Tua could interest us," said Finkel. "He's a big puncher. I know how good he is. If he can do to a higher ranked boxer what he did to Saul Montana he would be right on our radar screen."
