Hard-hitting Federico Catubay has scored a tenth round TKO victory over 33 year old veteran Jerruy Pahayahay to win the Philippine flyweight title in the main event of a fight card staged at the Pelaez Sports Center in Cagayan de Oro City on Monday.
Catubay was coming off two big wins last year following a February 20 split decision loss to Thailand’s Sarikalek Eakarin in a WBC Youth light flyweight title bout. The newly crowned champion of Sammy Gello-ani who trains at the famed ALA Gym of Cebu boxing patron Tony Aldeguer, scored a stunning split decision win over former world champion Yo-Sam Choi of South Korea on March 27 last year and followed this up with a seventh round TKO win over Yura Dima in Chonchun, Korea last June 18.
Pahayahay was coming off back-to-back setbacks losing a technical decision last May 21 to Rexon Flores and then dropping a decision to Kunituki Aizawa last December 13.
