The war of words between Chorley’s Jack Catterall (22-0, 12 KOs) and Hackney-based Ohara Davies (18-1, 14 early) has been steadily heating up ahead of their October 6 meeting at the Leicester Arena and Catterall believes the lessons he has learned since joining Jamie Moore’s thriving stable of fighters will help him overcome his biggest test to date.

Indeed, the 25-year-old feels that watching the likes of Carl Frampton, Rocky Fielding, and Martin Murray, has helped him learn more about the sport and that this will bleed into his own game when the bell sounds against Davies.

“Carl's win over Luke Jackson and Rocky's world title upset have brought a good vibe in the gym,” he said when speaking to the Chorley Guardian.

“Carl has been at the highest level and I can pick his brains.  I am not afraid of asking people like him questions.  I have been at the side of him for a couple of camps and I have never been scared of going up to him and asking his opinion.  My chats with Carl have definitely brought me on.”

The number two rated WBO light-welterweight contender hopes that a win will underline his domestic credentials ahead of a world title push and he is confident of securing victory.

“I have been in the WBO rankings for a couple of years, I have earned my stripes and once I come thorough Davies I don't believe that world title shot is far away,” he added.

Now 3-0 under Moore, Catterall came through his toughest test yet courtesy of a decision win over Tyrone McKenna in June to set up the Davies showcase.  “McKenna was a good learning fight,” he said.

“It's going to be a tough fight against Ohara Davies.  He has had some good wins over the last couple of years and he has power, but I believe in my ability to overcome what he has got.”
