SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Rogelio Castaneda Jr. overcame an injured hand to score an unanimous decision over Lamar Murphy in a 10-round bout Thursday night at Arco Arena.

Castaneda (23-10-3), of Sacramento, was in control of the fight in the first two rounds before he injured his left knuckles in the third.

Casteneda, whose International Boxing Association junior-welterweight title was not on the line, said he was able to fight through the pain.

"I came with only a hand-and-a-half, you know," Castaneda said. "I couldn't use it that much because I kept thinking about it. Hopefully, tonight I'll check it to see if it's not broken."

Murphy (29-10-3) may have picked up on Castaneda's injury, coming out in the fourth round swinging with fury, but Castaneda withstood everything the seasoned boxer threw at him.

Murphy came back with the same strategy in the eighth, but Castaneda remained the aggressor in the last two rounds.

Murphy has lost his last five fights, including two at Arco Arena in the last couple of years.

Vicente Escobedo won a unanimous decision over Mexico's Baudel Cardenas (14-5-2) in an eight-round, junior lightweight match. Escobedo (10-1-0), who represented the United States in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, knocked Cardenas down one minute into the eighth round with a right hook.
