BoxingScene.com has been advised that the International Boxing Federation has elevated interim-beltholder Johnriel Casimero (16-2, 10KOs) to the full champion position in the junior flyweight division. Previous champion Ulises "Archie" Solis was ordered to make a mandatory defense on or before January 30, 2012. Last October in Guadalajara, Solis suffered a badly broken jaw from an alleged confrontation with WBC 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
Due to his injuries, the IBF granted Solis a medical exception. Under the rules, Solis had until October 30 to defend his title against Casimero. However, Solis' was made aware a few months ago that his injuries did not properly heal. He required a bone insertion on the left side of his jaw. The operation was done on May 29 and Solis will need at least three to four months to reover, which makes him unable to defend by the IBF's October deadline.
