Two of the victims in the fallout of Kelly Pavlik's bout with Paul Williams, are Carlos Quintana and Joshua Clottey. They were scheduled to fight in the televised co-feature on December 5 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Pavlik withdrew from the fight on Wednesday with a staph infection in his left hand. Because Pavlik withdrew, the Quintana-Clottey was bounced off the date witrh Top Rank [Clottey's promoter] no longer being involved.
Williams still plans to fight on that date. WBC junior middleweight champion Sergio Martinez is a frontrunner to get the fight. Martinez's promoter Lou DiBella is also the promoter of Quintana. If a Williams-Martinez deal can be made, DiBella would like to place Quintana on the undercard. Quintana withdrew from this Saturday's Broadway Boxing event in Puerto Rico to take the fight with Clottey.
"[Dibella] wanted me to fight in Puerto Rico and then fight on December 5, but HBO told me that I couldn't. Regardless I am still hopeful that I will be able to fight. I'm still training to fight on that night," Quintana told Primera Hora.
