There were no excuses from former welterweight champion Carlos Quintana. He was stopped in eight rounds last Saturday when he challenged WBC champion Andre Berto. Quintana said Berto was simply a better fighter. He was alot faster than Quintana expected, and his defense was a lot better too.
"He wasn't as strong as we expected. He didn't get hit as much as we expected. He was very fast and dominated me. He did very well in the fight," Quintana told El Nuevo Dia .
Quintana did say the referee was getting too involved in the fight and not allowing him to stick to his gameplan, but the former champ said the weight was not a problem. He said Berto was hurt from a very good shot to the body in the second round.
Quintana returned to welterweight for the Berto opportunity. No more fights at welterweight. Quintana is moving right back to junior middleweight.
"No more at 147-pounds. Now it's going to be 154. It's going to be 154," Quintana said.
