The lanky heavyweight prospect from Puerto Rico, Carlos Negron, said he was ready for his first test on September 2, when he faces Colombian Epifanio Mendoza, a veteran fighter with a record of 31-12 and 27 knockouts. Negron, who began as a cruiserweight, says his body is maturing well in the heavyweight division.

"Mendoza has a lot of experience but I do not feel pressured and I don't expect to have problems. I trust my technique and skill," Negron said.

Negron, 6'6 and holding a record of 13-0 with nine knockouts, is likely going to weigh 215-pounds when he steps inside the ring with Mendoza. Negron is looking to fight again in October and then in November. He wants to shoot for a regional title in the near future but says there is no reason to rush for a shot at the world title.

"I'm still young [23-years-old]. There is no reason to hurry. As I get older, I'll add more weight and strength. By 2013, I will ready for some name opponents and at around 20-odd fights I could go for a major fight. All of that I will leave to my promoters but we will always be ready," Negron said.
