According to promoter Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing, there are several possible fights being discussed for junior middleweight contender Carlos Molina (19-4-2, 6KOs). Based on his recent outings, Molina has had a breakout year and there are five months to go before 2012. He fought Erislandy Lara to a close ten round draw in March, and then knocked out Allen Conyers in April, and then dominated former champion Kermit Cintron to win a ten round decision on July 9th.
Margules has had preliminary discussions with Top Rank, Golden Boy Promotions, Artie Pellulo and Dan Goossen. Some of the fights being mentioned include unbeaten welterweight Mike Jones, WBO 154-pound champion Sergiy Dzinziruk, and former champion Paul Williams. Margules tells BoxingScene that Molina is willing, and capable, of getting down to 147-pounds.
"We've gotten a lot of calls. We want a big fight. We want the biggest fight that's out there. There have been some preliminary discussions with Top Rank. There have been some preliminary discussions with Golden Boy. There have been discussions with Goossen about Paul, and there have even been discussions with Artie about Dzinziruk," Margules told BoxingScene.com.
"He'll return in the fall. He's one of those kids who stays in the gym and he's always ready to fight. He's ready to fight anyone from 147 to 154. He can make 147. If he's given enough time, he'll make 147."
