On day one of the World Boxing Cup in Brazil, three Team USA boxers saw action.
Carlos Flowers, who boxes at 70kg and fights out of Dover, Delaware, was the lone winner on Monday, March 31.
Flowers defeated Australian Shannan Davey, who boxed in the 2024 Paris Olympics, winning a unanimous decision and moving on to the quarter-finals, which will take place on Wednesday. There, he faces Panama’s Eduardo Beckford.
Orlando Zamora, making his international debut, lost a decision to another Australian Olympian, Yusuf Chothia, at 55kg, and at 90kg Malachi Georges lost 5-0 to Brazilian Isaias Filho.
On Tuesday, Team USA will have four boxers in the ring, including Yoseline Perez (54kg), who meets Australia’s Monique Suraci, a Paris 2024 Olympian, and two more international debutants in Ramon Ordonez (60kg) and Kelvin Watts (90+kg). Lisa Greer (60kg) will conclude the day for Team USA in the evening session against Australia’s Tina Rahimi.
