Former world boxing champion Carlos Baldomir will continue to be detained until the starts of his trial for the allegations of sexual abuse of his minor daughter, who is now 14 years old.
The judge of the Chamber of Criminal Appeals, Jorge Andrés, issued an order which denied a request to have Baldomir released from prison.
"There is satisfaction in the order for the support that the family of the victim feels on the part of the judge," said the lawyer for the complainant, Alejandro Otte. "The preparatory criminal investigation is practically already finished, and now the intermediate stage of the judicial process will take over."
Baldomir, a former welterweight world champion, was arrested back on November 18 as part of an ongoing investigation into the allegations.
The complaint against Baldomir, 45 years old, indicates that the abuse took place "between three and five years ago."
The boxer reached the peak of his career by winning a unanimous decision om points in January 2006 over Zab Judah in the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York. That triumph allowed him to win the World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight title. It was a huge upset at the time, as Judah selected Baldomir as an easy interim-opponent to sharpen his skills for an April fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
But in November of that same year (2006), Baldomir knocked out the legendary Arturo Gatti and then got a pay-per-view unification fight, which he lost, against Floyd Mayweather.
The last fight for Baldomir occurred in April of 2014, when he was 43 years old, when he dropped a unanimous decision to Russian fighter Andrey Meryasev in Yucatán, Mexico.
After his professional campaign concluded, Baldomir walked away with a record of 49 wins (15 on the fast track), 16 defeats and 6 draws.
