Rick Glaser, spokesperson for Carl King spoke to BoxingScene.com in response to Owen Beck’s public airing of his decision to end his association with both Don King and Carl King.
Carl King was unavailable to respond himself because he is in transit to Moscow for the Larry Donald fight this weekend.
BoxingScene.com: Rick what is Carl’s response to Beck’s issues?
Glaser:; First of all the man lost three fights in his career. A WBC eliminator with Monte Barrett, the winner was to fight Rahman which took place, second was the IBF eliminator with Ray Austin which led to a title fight, and last he lost a WBA title fight. How this man ended up broke six months after the Valuev fight is beyond anyone’s reasonable comprehension. It defies all imagination how this guy could be broke when he secures by far the biggest fight of his career financially and made more money in one fight than his entire career before. If he is broke than Carl feels sorry for this situation but the man spent his own money, nobody did it for him.
BoxingScene.com: What about Beck’s issues after the Valuev fight?
Glaser: After the Valuev fight Beck told informed Carl he needed eye surgery and told us that he had received that surgery. On many occasions Carl King asked for a doctors report and Clearance to Box from Owen. The fighter never sent a release and on several occasions Beck stated he was going to retire.
Furthermore the most recent fight that Beck pulled out of , which was a tune up fight that he should have won easily, Beck began making all kinds of demands that Carl King was not contractually obligated to fulfill.
Carl King has acted in the fighters best interest, securing him three major bouts which Beck hasn’t come up smiling in any of them.
BoxingScene.com; What is King’s response to his contract ending in October and not being renewed by Beck?
Glaser: The contract is not up in October because Carl still has not seen a release from the doctor. Clearance to fight. That puts the contract in suspension due to an injury or retirement. Beck may want to claim this and that but those are the facts regarding the contract. You can not get a fight for a boxer who does not have a medical clearance to fight after a surgery especially eye surgery.
BoxingScene.co: Did Carl or Don King Productions confirm at anytime independently that Beck needed or received eye surgery? Is Beck under suspension by any commission?
Glase: Carl King’s phone has always been open for Owen Beck, further more the only thing Carl wants at this point is the release (medical ) or some kind of compliance saying he is able to fight. Even though Beck is not under suspension, when a guy says he needs eye surgery ou must act in the best interest of your fighter and get medical clearance. As a manager you are obligated to protect your fighter.
Glaser added that Owen may call Carl King Tuesday, upon his return from Moscow next week and King is concerned for Beck’s financial situation. King was disappointed though that Owen Beck decided to publicly air his unhappiness prior to speaking with him .
