Sometimes nice guys finish last. When former super middleweight champion Carl Froch begins his training camp, he throws the nice guy attitude in the trash can. Froch is training for next Saturday's war with Arthur Abraham in Helsinki, Finland. Froch vs. Abraham is the final third stage bout of the Super Six Boxing Classic.
"I'm a ruthless, cold-hearted, selfish person, most boxers are," said Froch to the Nottingham Post. "You have to be selfish. You have to say 'no' to friends and family. You have to be disciplined and you become somewhat of a recluse, especially when you're training. Now, I'm not just doing it for myself but I'm doing it for my son Rocco as well."
Froch is on a mission to redeem the sport of boxing. He was sick to his stomach after watching Audley Harrison's performance last Saturday against WBA heavyweight champ David Haye. He wants to put on a real show against Abraham to bring the fans' faith back in boxing.
"One man like Audley Harrison shouldn't be allowed to ruin boxing," said Froch. "He sold the fight well. Everyone got roped in by his sales tactics, even me for a split second. He could sell sand to the Arabs. But you always know what you're going to get with Audley, don't you? The Abraham fight will be a better spectacle for fans. With me, you are guaranteed someone turning up who wants to win and gives it their heart and soul."
