Should unbeaten super middleweight Carl "The Cobra" Froch get past Jean Pascal on December 6 at the Trent FM Arena, his promoter Mick Hennessy says the Nottingham would like to defend the WBC title against his mandatory, Jermain Taylor, at New York's Madison Square Garden. Froach and Pascal will do battle for the title Joe Calzaghe vacated when he moved up to light heavyweight.
Taylor was one of the two fighters in line to get a crack at the vacant title. HBO wanted Taylor to fight his former Olympic pal Jeff Lacy, and so he did. The WBC made Taylor-Lacy a mandatory eliminator with the winner getting a crack at the winner of Froch-Pascal. Hennessy has doubts that Taylor is willing to fight Froch, even on US soil.
"I have already made it clear that we are prepared to go out there" said Hennessy to the Evening Post. "I offered Taylor big money to fight Carl for the title but he actually accepted less to take on Jeff Lacy in what was an eliminator. He obviously didn't fancy Carl. Taylor vs. Lacy was always going to be a mismatch"
