Carl Frampton will soon be closing in on a return.
The Belfast featherweight lost his WBA ‘Super’ title against Leo Santa Cruz back in January and has yet to announce his comeback.
But ‘The Jackal’, 30, will have his next fight at Windsor Park in Belfast after over two years on the road where he and his fans have taken in Manchester, New York, El Paso, and Las Vegas.
In his weekly column for the Sunday Life, Frampton (23-1, 14 KOs) said that his return "looking like late July or early August in Windsor Park."
However, it won’t be the trilogy showdown with Santa Cruz. The WBA have ordered the Mexican to face his fellow countryman, ‘regular’ champ Abner Mares, next.
Both Santa Cruz and Mares have entered into a 30-day negotiation period for their fight and a purse bid will be called if a deal is not reached.
"It looks like we will have something set in stone within the next fortnight," Frampton, who has yet to reveal the identity of his next foe, continued in his column.
"The guys behind the scenes at Cyclone Promotions are working very hard to get it sorted and we’re very close.
"It will be another big night at Windsor."
