According to former two division champion Carl Frampton (23-1, 14 KOs), his next opponent being finalized for his ring return on July 29th in Belfast.
It will be Frampton's first bout in Belfast in over two years, and he says the contest could very well be his last in the region. The next opponent will be revealed shortly.
The talented boxer is looking to bounce back from his first career defeat, which he suffered back in January at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Frampton lost a very close twelve round decision, and his WBA featherweight title, to Leo Santa Cruz.
Frampton is advised by Al Haymon and fights under the Premier Boxing Champions banner in the United States.
Three out of Frampton's last four fights took place in American - and Haymon wants him back in the country as soon as possible.
"[My next fight is] a good fight, it’s a very exciting fight. I know the Americans and Al Haymon that we’re working with, they want me back Stateside pretty soon and they’re a bit concerned. They’re like ‘just take an easy fight and come back over here to the States,’ but I don’t want to mug people off," Frampton told BBC Radio Live.
His promoter Barry McGuigan added his take on the upcoming ring return - “it’s definitely not an easy fight. This is not a walkover, believe me. This is anything but a walkover, this is a very tough fight.”
Frampton was attempting to get a trilogy fight with Santa Cruz, but the Mexican boxer refused to come over to Belfast. There is still a chance a third fight could go down, but Santa Cruz would first have to beat his upcoming mandatory challenger, Abner Mares, with that fight likely to take place on a date in September in Los Angeles.
