Carl "The Jackal" Frampton (22-0, 14 KOs) is flying out to New York City on Monday to begin his final lap of training camp, for the biggest fight of his pro boxing career - the upcoming showdown with undefeated featherweight WBA world featherweight champion Leo "El Terremoto" Santa Cruz (32-0-1, 18 KOs).
Their perfect records will be at stake on Saturday, July 30 in the main event of a Premier Boxing Champions event from Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The telecast begins live on SHOWTIME® at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
Frampton made his American debut last July in El Paso, Texas. He retained his IBF super bantamweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. Frampton survived two knockdowns in the first round.
Frampton says he made a big mistake in the fight with Gonzalez, by not arriving early enough to get adjusted to the time zone and the weather. Because of that he struggled a bit to make weight and had some early struggles in the fight. He was a totally different fighter when he outboxed domestic rival Scott Quigg over twelve rounds in February.
“I am going over early for the fight as we learned a few lessons from my fight in El Paso. I want to get there early to make sure I get over the travelling and get used to the time zone in New York," Frampton told Newsletter.
“This is the biggest fight of my life and I have to be ready. It is hard leaving my wife Christine and my two kids Carla and Rossa, but these are the sacrifices you have to make. Preparation is going well and I am looking to the fight. I am confident I can win and become a two weight world champion."
