Golden Boy Promotions will promote a fight card the night before the Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez-Amir Khan fight in Las Vegas, Nev.
Welterweight contender Pablo Cesar Cano and lightweight Marvin Quintero will co-headline a ‘Boxeo Estelar’ card on May 6, Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Robert Diaz told BoxingScene.com.
Both 10 round bouts will air live on Estrella TV and on RingTVLive.com.
Golden Boy has promoted numerous fight cards the night before a major card that fall on ‘Cinco De Mayo’ or Mexican Independence Day weekends. Most of those recent fight cards have taken place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
When asked if the May 6 card will take place at the same venue, Diaz responded, “It will be a surprise.”
Cano (29-4-1 1NC, 21 KOs) was victorious in his last bout on December 19, outpointing Silverio Ortiz over 10 mostly one-sided rounds.
Cano holds modest decision wins over Johan Perez and Ashley Theophane, but has come up short in world title fights.
The 26-year-old Cano was stopped by Erik Morales in September of 2011 and suffered a questionable loss to Paulie Malignaggi 13 months later.
Quintero (28-6, 24 KOs) has scored back-to-back wins after dropping three of his previous four bouts. In his last bout on September 18, the southpaw from Tijuana, Mexico notched a fifth round knockout win over Jeffrey Fontanez.
