Jose 'Chepo' Reynoso, manager of former two-division world champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (47-1-1, 33KOs), is brushing off the verbal barbs from Abel Sanchez - the head trainer of IBO, WBC, WBA and IBF middleweight world champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs).
Golovkin will return to the ring on September 10th, when he defends his belts against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook at the O2 Arena in London.
One week later, at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas - Canelo will drop back to 154-pounds to challenge WBO junior middleweight world champion Liam Smith.
Earlier this year, Golovkin was the mandatory challenger to Canelo, who held the WBC title at 160-pounds. After both sides agreed to face each other in the fall, the fight took a side turn when Canelo vacated the title not long after his May knockout of Amir Khan.
The two sides continued to negotiate and then agreed to face each other in September of 2017. The agreement is a verbal deal and has no legal binding.
After Canelo walked away from the title, and the WBC named Golovkin as their new champion, Sanchez took aim at the Mexican superstar. Sanchez felt Canelo, and his promoter Golden Boy Promotions, wasted Golovkin's time.
"This gentleman is doing well with Golovkin, and now he's talking a lot more. People want to get noticed, and if they don't talk then nobody listens to them. We are not the kind of people who like to talk. We are people of action and not words. Time puts everyone in their place," Reynoso said to ESPN Deportes.
