MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer announced that Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (40-0-1, 39KOs) will defend his WBC junior middleweight title on September 15th at the MGM Grand. Alvarez dominated Shane Mosley over twelve rounds in the co-featured bout to the Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto HBO pay-per-view.

"I want to announce that the MGM is ready for Canelo to headline his first pay-per-view event and it will take place on September 15th. We have a couple opponents in mind and we will announce his opponent soon," Schaefer revealed.

The September 15th date falls on the weekend of Mexican Independence Day which is traditionally a big date for boxing both in Las Vegas and on pay-per-view.
