For the better part of his career, Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has been showcased in his country by Televisa, but a major ratings shift took place when Zanfer Promotions officially announced on Saturday that a deal has been reached, with Golden Boy Promotions, to carry Canelo's next three fights on network rival TV Azteca.
Some wondered if Canelo would jump ship from Televisa - after his country rival Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. left TV Azteca and moved over to Televisa. Chavez makes his Televisa debut on April 18th when he faces Andrzej Fonfara.
Canelo will make his Box Azteca debut on May 9th, when he faces James Kirkland in Texas. The fight with Kirkland will also be Canelo's network return to HBO after spending several years being showcased by American TV rival Showtime.
