Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Las Vegas, MAGIC Convention 2016 - Earlier today WBC middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez was at his booth at PROJECT Las Vegas unveiling his new clothing line. The two-division champion had t-shirts, hats, track gear, and other apparel on display.
Alvarez said that he has had numerous requests for the clothing and that plans for the clothing line have been in the works for a while. The apparel is on sale now on the official Canelo website.
"This is something new for me that we are starting," Canelo told BoxingScene.com in an exclusive interview. "We want to do what we can to thank the fans and we feel this is a way they can continue to support Team Canelo. The fans have given me a lot of support over the years and have asked about Team Canelo clothing and now this is a little something we can do for them."
Canelo returns to action on May 7th against Amir Khan on HBO pay-per-view and said that he definitely plans on wearing his own gear into the ring.
"That is the plan. I have this new company and who can publicize and represent my clothing line better than me?" Alvarez reasoned.
The plan is for the fight to take place at the new T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas strip (although there is a small possibility it will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena). The venue opens in April and the upcoming fight against Amir Khan would be the first boxing event at the MGM owned property.
"It isn't 100% done but it is very likely that I will fight at the arena in Las Vegas. It would be an honor to participate in the inaugural boxing match at the new arena. It would be historic," said Alvarez who is set to begin training camp in a few weeks.
