Discussions are still ongoing for a middleweight collision between WBC champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) of Puerto Rico and Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs).
Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya, who promotes Canelo, is hoping to finalize the HBO Pay-Per-View fight for May 2nd, Cinco De Mayo weekend.
Canelo, away from the gym for several weeks to heal a left ankle injury, is hungry to get back in training.
"I feel weird [with training for so long], that's the truth. I've been rested for too long, but I feel weird. I like to always be training, but because of my ankle [I've been forced to stay away]," Canelo said. "I had a small cyst that did not bother me, but it grew and when I trained hard the following day I had to stop because it swelled so bad, so I decided to fix it because I want to enter 2015 without any problems. I think that I'll start running in January and then step up the intensity."
