As already reported on BoxingScene.com, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is still very much interested in staging a fight between WBC 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (41-0-1, 30KOs) and former three division king Miguel Cotto (37-4, 30KOs). Golden Boy was planning to make the match for May 4th. Cotto suffered a setback on Saturday in New York, when he lost a twelve round unanimous decision to WBA "regular" beltholder Austin Trout.

"Definitely [Canelo-Cotto] is still a possibility. We will talk to Miguel and see what he wants to do. Miguel is an exciting fighter. He always gives a great show, entertaining the fans. Sure, you always want to win more than lose, but I still think that Cotto-Alvarez is a very good matching of styles and it would be a great fight," Schaefer told Jose Sanchez.

Bob Spagnoli, the manager of Trout, is upset that Canelo is ignoring his fighter.

"Come on, when he talks about who he wants to fight Canelo mentions everyone but Austin. When Austin beat his brother in Mexico, Canelo was in the front row and told everyone they would avenge his sibling. But what did he about it? Nothing."
